Software Engineer II - Marketing Engineering

GitHub is looking for a well-rounded full stack web engineer to help boost growth and brand awareness across GitHub’s various products. You’ll work alongside other engineers, designers, and stakeholders from product, marketing, and sales to build tools that affect GitHub’s reach, impact, and business metrics. You’ll make contributions to the GitHub Rails application as well as other services potentially written in Ruby, JavaScript, Node, React, and Go. Examples might include GitHub’s home page and other marketing pages, content authoring systems, brand and growth initiatives, tools to help our team scale, and beyond!

Responsibilities

  • Write, review and maintain code primarily in Ruby, JavaScript/TypeScript, React and Go.
  • Collaborate with your team, product, design and marketing to build new marketing pages and the backend systems that power them.
  • Own and advocate for the health and quality of the systems that the team builds, including participating in on-call and first responder rotations.
  • Document systems, experiments and prototypes that you help build.
  • Contribute to a component-based design system.
  • Analyze telemetry data to gain insights into service behaviors and performance.
  • Share technical direction, mentorship, pairing opportunities, and code reviews to encourage the growth of others.
  • Be a role model to create a culture of psychological safety both within the team and cross-team, where differing views can be shared and heard.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ year(s) of experience developing production software using Ruby and JavaScript/Typescript
  • 2+ year(s) of experience building and maintaining web applications
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Experience with Git and GitHub
  • Experience with API design
  • Strong written and verbal communication skill
  • Passionate about healthy team culture and collaboration
  • Comfortable in remote and async work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with front-end client libraries like React
  • Experience with static site generators like Jekyll or NextJS
  • Experience with content management systems
  • Experience with web accessibility
  • Experience with web performance
